Huraa utility services handed over to Fenaka

Huraa Island Council has handed over electricity, water, and sewerage systems to Fenaka Corporation Limited to further expand the services. The services were handed over to Fenaka in a ceremony held in Huraa, Kaafu Atoll.

The agreement was signed by Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Ahmed Saeed Mohamed and President of Huraa Island Council Easa Ahmed. The utility services in Huraa were previously provided by the island council.

Speaking at the ceremony, President of Huraa Island Council Easa noted that the utility services were previously provided by the council at the expense of other areas of development in the island. He said the agreement is expected to pave the way for further expansion and development of utility services in Huraa, adding that handing over the services to Fenaka will increase local job opportunities.

Fenaka stated the agreement was a major milestone as Huraa is the first island in Kaafu Atoll in which all the utility services are being provided by the company. Fenaka also stated it aims to provide utility services to nearby resorts as well. The state-owned utility company plans on continuously upgrading and maintaining the power generation, water, and sewer facilities in order to cater to the demand of customers in Huraa.

The powerhouse in Huraa was built in 1987 with a 10kW engine and has since been upgraded four times to meet the increasing demand on the island.
