Parliament of the Maldives has opened the opportunity for the public to submit complaints on the nominations for the vacant membership positions of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The opportunity to submit complaints regarding the nominations ends on March 6.
Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions has begun reviewing the nominations. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has nominated five of the 30 individuals who applied for the vacant positions.
In order of priority, the nominations are Adam Shamil, Abduh Salaam, Thoha Mohamed, Shazna Hashim, and Shiyama Mohamed. Adam Shamil has years of experience as an investigator at ACC and Abduh Salaam is currently an investigator at the commission. Meanwhile, Thoha Mohamed is a member of the Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes and Shiyama Mohamed is Head of the Legal Department at the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM).
Application for membership was opened following the resignation of all five members of the ACC, amid the dismissal motion launched against them at Parliament. The dismissal motion was launched by Parliament, citing their failure to complete the investigation of cases submitted to the commission.
