CEO of Maldives Autism Association elected to Disability Council

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maldives Autism Association Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has been elected to the Disability Council of the Maldives.

Dr. Shafeeu was elected to the seat representing civil society organisations with four votes. Candidate Mariyam Shahudha received three votes and Aminath Haifa received two votes.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has postponed the elections for the seat representing people with disabilities and the seat representing the guardians of people with disabilities. The elections for the seats were postponed due to unresolved complaints regarding the accessibility of the election for eligible voters with respect to the electoral arrangements in place. The ministry stated it is currently working to hold an election that is accessible to all voters.

Disability Council of the Maldives is a constitutional institute to protect the rights of persons with disabilities in the country.
