Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) and the Indian High Commission in the Maldives have paid a special tribute to the late Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Munu Mahawar said the memories of Lata Mangeshkar and her songs will always be remembered by the people.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof also participated in the tribute. The Indian Cultural Centre thanked the youth ministry for their support in organising the event.
Fifteen songs by Lata Mangeshkar were performed at the function held at the Auditorium of Maldives National University (MNU).
Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92 while undergoing treatment for COVID-19. She was admitted to the hospital for COVID-19 treatment in early January and passed away on February 6. Lata made her name in the world of Bollywood and her voice has rung out on television sets, on crackly airwaves, and from movie theatres for most of independent India's three-quarters of a century, earning her the name the Nightingale.
She started singing at the age of 13 and spent more than 70 years in her career. She has sung more than 30,000 songs in different languages.
