Additional 3,000 tourist beds from resorts to be brought to operation this year

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has announced 3,000 additional tourist beds from the resort sector will be brought to operation this year.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Minister Mausoom said there has been a slight delay in the schedule of the release of beds for operation. The minister noted the number of beds projected to be brought into operation has been changed due to the delay in opening resorts scheduled to be opened in the Maldives amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The minister added about 8,000 beds will be brought into operation each year.

There are currently 925 tourist establishments in operation in the Maldives, including resorts, hotels, guesthouses, and liveaboards. The total bed capacity of these facilities is 54,154, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism.
