Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commenced repatriation of Maldivian students in Ukraine.
The foreign ministry began repatriation efforts following an order by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to repatriate all Maldivians in Ukraine due to the escalating situation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The foreign ministry revealed 5 of the 50 Maldivian students in Ukraine have been repatriated, while 25 more students are on their way.
The foreign ministry revealed only 5 Maldivian students remain in Kharkiv, where the threat of war is most imminent due to its proximity with the Russian border. The ministry stated efforts are ongoing to assist the repatriation of the five Maldivians who are currently in the region.
The foreign ministry has advised Maldivians living in Ukraine to register at the nearest diplomatic mission, which is the Maldives Embassy in Germany. The ministry had also stated financial assistance is being provided to Maldivians who wish to return from Ukraine.
