Maldives Customs Service has revealed the highest number of goods were imported to the Maldives in December last year. MCS said goods worth USD287 million were imported to the Maldives in December which is an increase of 78% compared to the USD161 million goods imported to the Maldives in December 2020.
MCS revealed the highest number of goods were imported to the Maldives in December from the UAE, China, India, and Oman. As such, goods worth USD46 million were imported from the UAE, goods worth USD37 million were imported from China, goods worth USD32 million were imported from India, and goods worth USD31 million were imported from Oman in December last year.
As per statistics, most imported items include food items, machinery, electrical equipment, and oil. As such food items worth USD60 million, oil products worth USD52 million, machinery and electrical equipment worth USD50 million were imported to the Maldives in December last year.
The statistics show USD19 million was generated as revenue from import and export in December 2020 and the amount increased to USD 23 million in December last year, which is recorded as an increase of 23%.
