New policy requires permission to lease row houses, flats

Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has established a new policy requiring permission to lease row houses and flats built under a government housing project.

The new policy states row houses and flats built under a government housing project can only be leased after receiving permission from the authority that was in charge of the project. The policy also dictates that the row houses and flats which were issued as part of the social housing scheme can only be leased for a maximum of five years. The row houses and flats can be leased again after the five-year period after permission is received from the relevant authority, under the rules and regulations set by the authority.

The new policy will also nullify any agreement made to lease a row house or flat for an indefinite period. If a local council receives a report regarding illegal leasing of a row house or flat built under the social housing scheme, the council is required to inform the relevant authority and investigate and penalise the guilty party.
