Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated the new housing policy which is being formulated to resolve the longstanding housing difficulties faced by the people of Male’ is currently in its drafting stage.
In response to a question by Parliamentarian Meekail Naseem regarding the new policy pledged by the government to resolve housing difficulties in Male’, the housing minister said the policy is currently being drafted at the ministry. The minister revealed plans to hold discussions with all parliamentarians representing Male’ constituencies next week before finalising the policy.
In the 2022 Presidential Address, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih highlighted the plans to resolve housing difficulties faced by the people of Male’. As such, he announced plans to reclaim Giraavaru in Kaafu Atoll and issue 2,000 land plots for the people of Male’. He also highlighted the ongoing construction of 5,000 housing units in Hulhumale’ and plans to issue an additional 1,000 housing units in Hulhumale’ for the people of Male’.
