Maldivians warned not to travel to Ukraine

Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged Maldivians not to travel to Ukraine.

In a press release over the escalating situation in the eastern European country, the foreign ministry stated it has contacted the Maldivians living in the country and is monitoring their health and safety. It also advised the Maldivians to listen to the statements made by the Government of Ukraine and act accordingly. In addition, Maldivians living in Ukraine are also advised to register at the nearest diplomatic mission, which is the Maldives Embassy in Germany.

The US government has warned of a possibility of an invasion after observations and intelligence showed Russian military elements are being deployed near the border with Ukraine. However, Russia has denied the claim and stated it is exercising its right to defend the country inside its territory after the US ignored its opposition to the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) near the Russian border.
