Customs revenue grew by 30% in January

Maldives Customs Service has revealed the revenue from goods imported and exported to the Maldives has increased by 30% in January compared to the same period last year.

The statistics published by Customs show the Maldives generated USD20 million in January 2022, which is an increase from the USD16 million from imports and exports in January 2021.

Moreover, the statistics show that goods worth USD272 million were imported to the Maldives in January this year, which is an increase compared to the goods worth USD181 million that were imported in January 2021. The highest number of goods were imported to the Maldives from China, Oman, India, and the UAE. As such, goods worth USD54 million were imported from China, and goods worth USD37 million were imported from Oman.

Further, goods worth USD33 million were imported from India, and goods worth USD31 million were imported from the UAE last month. The largest share of exports in January was contributed by Thailand with 54% of exports, while the UK contributed to 10% of total exports.

Customs processed declarations for 19,873 vessels in January this year, which is an increase compared to the 16,248 declarations processed in the same period last year. The Maldives also received USD78,000 in royalties in January.
