Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem has stated increasing the transparency in the administrative procedures of state institutions and authorities will close the doors for corruption.
Disclosing the statistics of the PG Office for January, PG Shameem said the decision to disclose monthly statistics was taken as part of efforts to increase the transparency of its work. PG Shameem said the monthly report includes information on all completed and pending work relevant to the scope of the PG Office in the criminal justice system, and the results achieved. He said the report will help to make all institutions working in the criminal justice system accountable.
Speaking further, the PG said time and money is being invested for the monthly disclosure of statistics, noting employees are being trained specifically for this work with the help of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and UNICEF. He said the aim is to increase transparency and public confidence in the criminal justice system, and close the doors for corruption.
PG Shameem further stated the special software required for the disclosure of the monthly statistics is not ready yet. Therefore, he said the statistics for January can be viewed in Microsoft Excel format on the website of the PG Office. He expressed hope the statistics can be useful for policy makers, students and journalists.
