Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has revealed plans of the government to increase the expenditure on police training in the coming years. He made the remarks in the ceremony held to conclude the 33rd National Training Programme of Maldives Police Service (MPS).
Speaking at the ceremony, Home Minister Imran said police training has undergone several changes following the new 5-year Strategic Action Plan (SAP) of MPS. As such, the home minister noted the new training programmes focus on training police officers to new situations and challenges of the modern world. He added the establishment of the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement in Addu City, which is scheduled to be opened this year, would see a record expenditure undertaken on police training in the coming years.
Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said the new police SAP allocates a special focus on providing professional training and strengthening the investigative power of MPS. He said MPS will continue to evolve its services in accordance to the changing environment of crime.
The 33rd National Training Programme of MPS was completed by 58 recruit officers. Recruit Officer Mohamed Irushad was selected as the best graduate of the 33rd batch, and received the Commissioner Excellence Award from Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed. The awards for the four best graduates of the training programme were given out by Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Aishath Mohamed Didi, who attended as the chief guest of the ceremony.
