Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has signed an agreement with Parley Maldives to stop plastic pollution. MPL has agreed to implement the Parley AIR strategy at the port offices and premises.
The AIR strategy stands for avoiding plastic, intercepting plastic waste, and redesigning the materials as well as methods and thinking around plastic. MPL will set up a plastic waste interception point at the Hulhumale' International Terminal under the agreement.
At the signing ceremony, Chief Operating Officer (CEO) Ibrahim Abdulla said MPL is pleased to work with Parley in its initiatives to stop plastic pollution.
Director of Parley Shaheena Ali said the company is involved in gathering and recycling plastic in 128 islands and that the agreement with MPL will bolster the efforts. As per the agreement, MPL will be working with Parley for a period of one year to gather plastic waste and ship them abroad for recycling.
