Male' City Council has announced plans to sell 1,000 parking slots for four-wheeled vehicles in the capital city.
The council stated the parking slots to be sold under garage slots will be permanent parking slots. It stated 250 parking slots will be dedicated to taxis and that owners will be allowed to transfer their vehicles to zones in parking buildings once they are developed. It added that it will open applications to purchase the garage slots and lease the rest of the parking slots.
The council will be establishing the parking slots at the carnival area and on streets that are 20 feet wide with low traffic. Applicants will be allowed to choose their parking slots as well as revoke or transfer to another slot.
The council has been working to establish parking zones for four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles to solve the shortage of parking in the capital city. In this regard, some areas have been opened for free parking while other areas are available for leasing.
