Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted Maldives Transport Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop shore protection structures in Kulhudhuffushi, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Kudafari, Noonu Atoll.

The contracts were signed by Director General at the planning ministry Fathimath Shaana Farooq and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim.

MTCC is tasked with developing shore protection structures at the Kulhudhuffushi Airport. As such, the state-owned company will be constructing an 882m revetment and a 30m groyne within 200 days at a cost of USD2.7 million.

Around 15 hectares of land were reclaimed for the development of the airport but the existing shore protection structure has been severely damaged due to rain. MTCC is also tasked with constructing a 718m revetment in Kudafari within 300 days at a cost of USD970,000.

Some parts of the island have been severely damaged due to erosion, resulting in damage to property.
