President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured that the government projects in Gaafaru, Kaafu Atoll, are ongoing. He made the remarks during a meeting with members of the Gaafaru Island Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) during his visit to the island.
President Solih was accompanied by Vice President Faisal Naseem and cabinet ministers during the meeting. Discussions at the meeting focused on the administration's developmental plans for Gaafaru.
During the meeting, the council members expressed their gratitude, and that of the residents, for the development of a 25-tonne ice plant and the introduction of a police post on the island. The council members also shared the most pertinent needs of the residents including land scarcity, upgrading healthcare services, beach erosion, and delays in commencing the water and sewerage network project. They also discussed difficulties due to space constraints in the school and the need for improved waste management facilities and banking services. Additionally, members of the WDC shared the challenge of delivering their responsibilities due to a lack of dedicated office space.
During the meeting, President Solih detailed the ways the administration could resolve their concerns and informed them about the funds that have been earmarked in next year's budget to address most of their concerns. Vice President Faisal Naseem also spoke in-depth about the administration's developmental plans for the island.
After the meeting, President Solih toured the island's health centre and met with the staff.
