Parliamentary committee passes decision to begin dismissal proceedings against ACC members

Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions has passed the decision to begin work to dismiss the incumbent members of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The motion to begin work on dismissing ACC members was proposed by Parliamentarian Hassan Ahmed last month and seconded by Parliamentarian Ahmed Haleem. The motion requested that the committee summon and question the ACC members individually and review the progress of their work before making a decision to dismiss the members.

Members of the committee voted unanimously to approve the motion. The decision was passed after conducting a performance audit of ACC, which found that the efforts of the commission have not met expectations.

Following the decision by the committee to begin dismissal proceedings against ACC members, the decision will be reviewed on the parliament floor. If the decision is passed by the parliament, dismissal proceedings will begin for each ACC member individually.

ACC currently consists of President Mariyam Shiuna, Vice President Fathimath Anoola, and members Ibrahim Shakeel and Aishath Abdulla. One membership position was vacated last month following the resignation of Ali Ashraf.
