Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed over 17,000 individuals have been administered the COVID-19 vaccine booster doses. HPA began administering a third vaccine dose on October 3 for individuals who received the first two doses.
The latest statistics show a total of 17,200 individuals have received the booster dose, with 687 individuals receiving the dose within the 24 hours of December 7, with 394 individuals receiving the dose in Greater Male' region and 293 individuals being administered in atolls.
Furthermore, a total of 232 individuals have been administered second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which includes 209 individuals who got their vaccine shots from the Greater Male' Region and 23 individuals who got their vaccine shots from the atolls. The total number of individuals who have completed the COVID-19 vaccine in the Maldives has now reached 365,046.
Meanwhile, the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine was administered to 62 individuals. This includes 49 individuals vaccinated from the Greater Male' Region and 13 individuals vaccinated from the atolls. With this figure, the total number of individuals who received their first dose of the vaccine has reached 396,066.
The Maldives currently administers the Pfizer vaccine as the booster dose for COVID-19. HPA stated booster doses are being administered to health workers and frontline workers as well as high-risk individuals.
Individuals who fit the criteria will be allowed to receive the booster dose six months after their second dose.
