Male’ City Council seeking operators for battery-powered taxi service in Villimale’

Male’ City Council has issued an announcement seeking parties to operate the battery-powered taxi service to be introduced in Villimale’.

Male’ City Council stated it is seeking parties to operate the battery-powered taxi service in Villimale’ 24 hours a day. Interested parties have been asked to attend an information session at the procurement section of the city council at 0900hrs on December 12. The deadline for bid submission has been set as December 20.

Speaking at a press conference last week, Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said battery-powered taxis are being introduced to Villimale’ to ease the difficulties faced by residents in carrying items that cannot be transported through a buggy. The mayor announced 10 battery-powered or electric cars will be used for the new taxi service.

Villimale’ is an eco-friendly island where vehicles with combustion engines are banned. Residents of Villimale’ generally use battery-powered scooters or vehicles for transport across the island.
