Government will not sacrifice basic services to cut costs: MWSC MD

Managing Director of Male' Water and Sewerage Company Limited (MWSC) Hassan Shah has stated the government will not sacrifice basic services to reduce expenditure.

The remarks were made at the event held for the groundbreaking of the water and sewerage services in Hirimaradhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll. The project was inaugurated by Managing Director Hassan Shah, Parliamentarian representing Hanimaadhoo Constituency Abdul Gafoor Moosa, President of Haa Dhaalu Atoll Council Mohamed Siraj and President of Hirimaradhoo Council Mohamed Waheed.

Speaking at the event, Managing Director Shah noted that providing water and sewerage services to all citizens is a key pledge of the government and that MWSC always aims to uphold quality when conducting its projects. He also said the government is working tirelessly to develop the needed infrastructure in the country, despite the economic downturn from the COVID-19 pandemic. He praised the government for assisting MWSC in conducting the water and sewerage projects during the COVID-19 pandemic and thanked President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for refusing to sacrifice the provision of basic services.

Also at the event, Parliamentarian Abdul Gafoor Moosa said the water and sewerage project is significantly connected to the development of Hirimaradhoo. He also said MWSC is one of the most reliable companies in the Maldives and that he expects the company to deliver water and sewerage services to the island residents soon.

MWSC is tasked with completing the water and sewerage project in Hirimaradhoo at a cost of USD 4.5 million. The scope of the project includes building a reverse osmosis (RO) facility, two RO plants, three pumping stations, and one sea outfall along with the water and sewerage network and household connections.
