The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Maldives has hosted a special event to mark the 50th National Day of the UAE.
The virtual event was hosted by the Charge d’Affaires of the UAE Embassy in the Maldives, Heba Aljneibi. Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology Aminath Shauna attended the event as the chief guest, with several other senior officials of the governments of the Maldives and UAE as well as foreign diplomats also joining the event.
Speaking at the event, the Charge d’Affaires noted the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has decided to adopt the National Day of the UAE as the World Futures Day. The Charge d’Affaires said UAE is honoured to share the celebrations of its national day with the world for planning for future generations.
To mark the National Day of the UAE, the National Museum of the Maldives was also lit up with the colours of the national flag of the UAE. In addition, the screen outside the main headquarters of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) also displayed a celebratory message on the occasion of the 50th National Day of the UAE.
The UAE is one of the main development partners of the Maldives. As such, the UAE has provided assistance in a multitude of different development projects carried out in the Maldives, across the sectors of tourism, education, infrastructure and business.
The National Day of the UAE is marked on December 2, the day the first six emirates constituting the UAE were unified.
