Efforts underway to acquire land for flour packing factory

Managing Director of State Organization (STO) Hussain Amru has revealed efforts are underway to acquire land to develop a factory to carry out the packing of ground flour.

STO said flour will be prepared and packed from the wheat imported to the Maldives, adding efforts are underway to acquire a land plot to develop the factory. He noted he expects the land plot will be provided near the Male' Commercial Port, noting President's Office is working on the task now.

Furthermore, Amru said the factory development project is expected to be completed within one and a half years. He said the factory built by STO will produce different types of flour and noted the importance of the factory being developed near the port.

STO expects the introduction of the factory in the Maldives will help maintain food security in the country. The state-owned company said the factory will reduce the cost of importing staple food.
