Ministry of Finance and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed an agreement to provide technical assistance equivalent to USD 2.05 million to the Maldives.
The agreement was signed by Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer and Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Keiko Yanai.
The finance ministry stated ADB will be providing USD 2 million as a grant through the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction. The ministry also stated the technical assistance will improve the management of communicable disease outbreaks and pandemic responses in the Maldives.
ADB has been providing support to the Maldives since 1978 and has provided a cumulative loan and grant disbursements amounting to USD 256 million.
The bank has also provided technical assistance totalling USD 481 million to 118 projects in the Maldives. As such, the bank has provided assistance to the Maldives government to begin the fifth tourism master plan and develop the waste management system in Thilafushi.
