STO appoints 60 agents to sell construction materials

State Trading Organisation (STO) has appointed 60 agents to sell construction materials imported to the Maldives.

In April this year, STO announced seeking agents to sell construction materials.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Managing Director Hussain Amru said STO has always acknowledged the importance of developing and empowering small businesses. In this regard, Amru said 60 parties have been given approval from the submissions in the opportunity given to apply to become STO agents. Amru noted one aim of STO is to provide its services closer to the residents.

The work of the agents will be providing construction equipment such as cement, stone, aggregate, iron, plywood, iron rods, tin and tin materials in the designated atolls, according to STO.

STO said two agents will be selected from each atoll. STO also said individuals registered with the Ministry of Economic Development can only be appointed as agents.
