National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has held a preparatory event in Male' City for the census programme to be held next year. NBS said preparatory events will be held in the atolls in the coming days although the preparatory event was held only in Male' this year.
As per statistics, the event was held as a test round of questions in the questionnaire prepared for the census. Within the week, employees of NBS are scheduled to visit households in four blocks from four areas of Male' to collect information.
These include Galolhu, Male' Municipal Block 150, Machangolhi Municipal Block 177, 174, and 227. Some households for the visit will be selected from some areas of Villimale' and Hulhumale'.
NBS has urged the public to cooperate as much as possible so that a clear picture of the living standards and other aspects of the households can be detailed. The census is a national programme aimed at collecting information on the living conditions, living standards, and income distribution of the people throughout the country. The last census in the Maldives was held in 2014.
NBS is currently preparing to launch the next census on September 17, 2022.
