Statistics released by the Secretariat of the Parliament have shown that 65.5% of the work allocated for the last term of this year was completed. The Parliament has gone into recess after completing the third term of the year.
Concluding the last session for the year, Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed elaborated on the work done during the last term. In this regard, the speaker said that parliamentarians spent 112 hours on the parliament floor for 44 sittings. He also detailed 331 hours were spent during the 320 committee meetings.
The details released by the Parliament showed 20 bills of the 41 bills were completed, four of the 12 resolutions were completed, seven cases submitted by the government was concluded, nine of the 13 cases submitted by parliamentarians were completed, 32 of the 39 questions were asked and answered by cabinet ministers and five emergency motions were submitted and completed.
The speaker said that 65.5% of the work was completed during the last term of the Parliament, thanking the parliamentarians for their efforts with the important bills passed during the term.
Parliament sittings will begin next year after the presidential address scheduled for February.
The presidential address must be delivered by the President of the Maldives in accordance with Article 84 of the Constitution of the Maldives. At the beginning of the first term of each year at the first sitting, the president shall address the Parliament on the situation of the country and may present proposals for improving the state of the country, according to Article 84 of the constitution.
