Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has announced an additional 100,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine will be brought to the Maldives next month.
Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of HEOC Dr. Fathmath Nazla Rafeeq said there are enough doses for people who are currently assigned for booster doses. She said another 100,000 doses will be brought through the COVAX Facility by the middle of next month to provide booster doses.
Maldives began administering the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine on April 4 for frontline workers, healthcare workers, people aged 60 years and above, and patients with underlying health conditions. However, booster doses are now being administered to people above the age of 50 as well.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced the government will begin administering booster shots to the general population in December. More than 9,500 people have been administered the third dose in the Maldives.
