Special police constables to be deployed to patrol Male’ City streets

Male’ City Council has announced the decision to deploy special police constables to patrol the streets of Male’ City.

Speaking at a press conference, Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu revealed the city council will formulate an agreement with Maldives Police Service (MPS) next week for the deployment of special constables to patrol the streets of the capital, in order to control crime and ensure public safety in the city. The mayor said special constables will be deployed 24 hours a day across 6 zones of Male’, noting the constables will attend to a variety of different issues such as traffic issues, public littering, street crimes and other public concerns. He added the salaries of the special constables will be paid by the city council.

Speaking further, Mayor Muizzu said the Male’ City Council is also undertaking special efforts to repair and refurbish parks and public spaces in Male’, in order to establish a better environment for the residents of the city. He said the city council aims to complete the repair and refurbishment of all parks and public spaces within the first year of the current council’s tenure.
