Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment has opened the Hafthaa Res Weekend Market in Kudahuvadhoo, Dhaalu Atoll.
The ministry began organising the weekend market as part of the government's goal to encourage and empower small local businesses. The weekend market began in Male' City but has expanded to various parts of the country.
Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Youth Minister Mohamed Nasih Rasheed said the purpose of the weekend market is to establish a place where people can meet and showcase their skills and products. The deputy minister noted the ministry has held the weekend market in many inhabited islands and that the event is becoming increasingly popular. He said the ministry includes events to empower the youth at the weekend market, and that the event is popular among people of all ages.
Parents and children as well as the youth in Kudahuvadhoo visited the weekend market, which held activities and showcased stalls with items that were popular among attendants. The ministry stated the weekend market will be next held in Laamu Atoll.
