Residential treatment centres will solve social issues: Home Minister

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has stated residential treatment centres will solve longstanding social issues in the country. He made the remarks at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the first government residential treatment centre in Kudahuvadhoo, Dhaalu Atoll.

The purpose of the residential treatment centre is to conduct programmes to rehabilitate children who have fallen into a life of crime and release them as productive members of society.

Speaking at the event, Minister Imran said economic and financial stability is crucial for individuals to live a happy and productive lifestyle. As such, the minister called on citizens to work together with the government and non-governmental organistaions (NGOs) to fix the broken communities in the country. He said the key to a peaceful community is to build strong individuals and family units, which will lead to a healthy country.

V-Ava Investment Private Limited has been contracted to build the two-storey residential treatment centre in Kudahuvadhoo within 450 days at a cost of USD 1.4 million. The agreement was signed between the home ministry and V-Ava Investment on September 27.
