Most of FDC flats will be allocated for Male’ citizens: Housing Minister

Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated the majority of the 4,000 flats to be constructed through the Fahi Dhirulhun Corporation Limited (FDC) will be allocated for citizens of Male’.

Speaking at the Parliamentary Committee on State Owned Enterprises, Minister Aslam said the government has decided to allocate the majority of FDC’s flats to Male’ citizens, noting there are currently about 5,000 families from Male’ who are in urgent need of housing. The minister noted the housing policy followed in the Maldives has always been issuing housing plots from the homeland of the individual. He added the citizens of Male’ also deserve to be given housing from their homeland.

Last year, FDC began the construction of 1,700 flats in Hulhumale’, with the contractor Sinohydro Global Construction. FDC has also contracted the construction of another 2,000 housing units to JMC Projects India, and another 2,000 housing units to Ashoka Buildcon Limited. All units will be 2-bedroom or 3-bedroom units.
