Managing Director of Maldives State Shipping (MSS) Abdulla Saeed has stated the shipping industry has many opportunities for women. He made the remarks at a ceremony to celebrate the maiden call of the company's new ship MMS Galena at the Male' Commercial Harbour.
Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director Abdulla Saeed said the company prioritises developing its human resources. The managing director noted that women play an active role in the shipping industries of other countries and called on women to accept the employment and career opportunities available in the shipping industry in the Maldives.
He said women also have the opportunity to work in the administration of the company and that MSS is continually working to develop its fleet and human resources. As such, he said engineers and deck cadets will be given scholarship opportunities and employment opportunities will be made available to new graduates to work for the company.
Additionally, Managing Director Saeed said 90% of the country's territory consists of the ocean and therefore the Maldives maritime sector and the shipping industry should have a bright future.
