Male’ Prison to be relocated to Hulhumale’

The government has decided to relocate Male’ Prison to Hulhumale’.

Speaking at a press conference held on November 21, Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla stated the relocation of Male’ Prison is part of efforts to expand the prison and resolve the issues related to lack of space. He said the relocation of Male’ Prison to Hulhumale’ will create more space for the prison.

The home minister further noted the current government has undertaken several efforts to improve the condition of prisons since assuming power in 2018. Noting lack of space is one of the primary problems faced in prisons, the minister said the government has been working on resolving this issue across all prisons.
