Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has revealed the development of the juvenile detention centre is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
Speaking at a press conference, Home Minister Imran said the government is undertaking important efforts to safeguard children from the world of crime. In this regard, the minister noted the development of the juvenile detention centre is an important project undertaken for juveniles exposed to crime. He noted the development of the centre is expected to be completed before the end of this year, while operations of the centre are expected to commence early next year.
Speaking further, the home minister highlighted the challenges faced in acquiring trained staff to rehabilitate juveniles exposed to crime. However, he said the government is seeking international assistance to acquire trained professionals in the field.
