KRH upgrade to allow regional access to tertiary healthcare services

Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated the efforts of the government to upgrade the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH) will allow the residents in the region to access tertiary healthcare services. He made the remarks during a meeting with the Vaikaradhoo Island Council and senior local institutional representatives.

Vice President Naseem said upgrading KRH to a tertiary-level hospital will eliminate the need for residents in the region to travel to Male' City to seek medical services.

During the meeting, the councillors briefed the vice president on their developmental plans and expressed gratitude to the government for the 16 developmental projects initiated on the island. The councillors raised concerns on the difficulty of leasing land from the island, additional requirements for the powerhouse, and allocation of a swimming area for residents. They also detailed the difficulties in providing land lots for residential use and the need to expedite the construction of the 12 classroom project to enable Vaikaradhoo School to adopt single-session schooling.

Also at the meeting, the school management stressed the need for a multipurpose hall to cater for extracurricular activities and senior representatives from Vaikaradhoo health centre highlighted the need for additional human resources, including a pediatrician for the health centre.

Prior to the meeting, Vice President Naseem inaugurated the outdoor gym in Vaikaradhoo and inspected the progress of the 12-classroom construction project at Vaikaradhoo School. He also visited Vaikaradhoo Health Centre and inquired about their services and inspected the progress of the construction of the extension building.
