President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has presented awards to six students who achieved first place in the courses conducted by the National Centre for the Holy Quran. He presented the awards at the graduation ceremony for students enrolled at the National Centre for the Holy Quran.
The students who achieved first place in the courses include three students who achieved degrees in teaching the Holy Quran, two students who achieved degrees in Imamship, and one student who achieved a diploma in teaching Holy Quran.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir said the government is working to expand the atoll branches of the National Centre for the Holy Quran and further develop the existing branches. The minister said a special committee has been formed to allow students to enroll in courses to memorise the Holy Quran in Addu City and Fuvahmulah City, instead of having to travel to Male' City for the courses.
He added the government will soon resume Holy Quran classes at mosques, which had been halted following the COVID-19 pandemic. He advised graduates to use their knowledge to better themselves and the community.
In the past three years, the Holy Quran centre has certified 71 students who achieved degrees in teaching the Holy Quran, and 23 students who achieved degrees in Imamship. This year, 58 students achieved degrees in teaching the Holy Quran, six students achieved degrees in Imamship, and 20 students achieved diplomas in teaching the Holy Quran.
