Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has provided a statement to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) regarding the terrorist attack carried out against him on May 6.
Speaker Nasheed has been in the UK since leaving for the COP26 Summit in Scotland last month. His brother Nazim Sattar, who is also part of the legal team representing the speaker, told the press that a written statement has been provided to MPS regarding the May 6 attack.
Speaker Nasheed was severely injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attached to a motorcycle was triggered while he was getting in his car on the night of May 6. The attack left Nasheed with serious injuries, requiring multiple life-saving surgeries and additional medical treatment in Germany and the UK.
The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has pressed charges against several suspects of the attack, following the police investigation. Further investigation is still ongoing to identify all perpetrators of the attack.
