Male' City Council has revealed it is seeking contractors to install CCTV cameras in mosques.
The council stated the installation of CCTV cameras is part of its work to renovate the mosques in Male' City. The council has requested interested individuals to submit their bids for the project.
An information session and bid registration have been scheduled for November 17, and those interested are required to bring their national identity cards. Male' City Council stated only businesses registered in the Maldives are allowed to participate in the bidding process.
Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla earlier revealed plans to install CCTV cameras in mosques in the Maldives to ensure safety and protection. The home minister said it is crucial to identify and stop illegal activities undertaken inside mosques. He said the root cause of such actions is the increase in drug use amongst Maldivian youth.
