Maldives and Sri Lanka to enhance collaboration in sports development

Maldives and Sri Lanka have agreed to enhance collaboration in sports development. The agreement was reached during a meeting held between Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of the Maldives Ahmed Mahloof, and the Minister of Youth and Sports of Sri Lanka Namal Rajapaksa.

During the meeting held in Sri Lanka, the two ministers discussed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries on sports projects. The two ministers discussed the implementation of certain projects under the MoU, and areas for further collaboration.

During the meeting, an agreement was reached for the national volleyball team of Sri Lanka to visit the Maldives and play some friendly matches. Discussions were also held on conducting a festival for surfers of both countries, and to organise a junior table tennis tournament between the two countries. Furthermore, the ministers discussed organising a youth exchange trip between the two countries.

Minister Mahloof is currently in Sri Lanka to watch the Mahinda Rajapaksa Four Nations Cup football tournament held in Colombo. During his trip, Minister Mahloof has also met with the sports council of Sri Lanka.
