President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has conducted a meeting with Kirsty Brimelow, the legal representative appointed by Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed to monitor the investigation of the May 6 terrorist attack.
The meeting was held at the Official Residence of the President on November 11. Following the meeting, Brimelow tweeted that the meeting with the president was held in relation to the acts of terrorism committed against the people of the Maldives and her client, Speaker Nasheed on May 6, 2021.
Brimelow is working as the legal representative of Speaker Nasheed to ensure the investigation is carried out in accordance to international laws and regulations. During her current visit to the Maldives, Brimelow has also met with Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla, Chairperson of MDP Hassan Latheef and the May 6 Committee formed by MDP to monitor the investigation of the attack.
Speaker Nasheed was severely injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attached to a motorcycle was triggered while he was getting in his car on the night of May 6. The attack left Nasheed with serious injuries, requiring multiple life-saving surgeries and additional medical treatment in Germany and the UK.
The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has pressed charges against several suspects of the attack, following the police investigation.
