Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has revealed plans to give out various awards to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Maldives tourism in 2022.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister Mausoom said the government will announce the criteria for the various tourism awards to be presented next year. He said the awards will be given to individuals as well as islands, resorts, and small businesses.
Additionally, Minister Mausoom said the government will announce the various activities to be held next year to celebrate the golden jubilee. The minister said the celebrations will begin on January 1 and that the government will announce the schedule for the activities before the end of this year. He said the main activities will begin in June, which includes an international tourism summit. The government will hold an event called Tourism Week to celebrate both the golden jubilee and World Tourism Day, he also said.
Furthermore, the minister added the government plans to work together with local councils to hold various activities and advertise the Maldives as a top travel destination. He also said various competitions will be held to break local and international tourism-related records.
He said the government will also provide the opportunity for private parties to hold celebratory events next year.
