Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail has announced regional job centres will be opened in Gan, Laamu Atoll, and Dhuvaafaru, Raa Atoll.
Speaking at the minimum wage announcement ceremony, Minister Fayyaz said the government is working on opening job centres to provide more employment opportunities. He said the main job centre will be established in Hulhumale' that will provide various services to both employers and individuals seeking jobs.
The minister detailed that the government plans to establish online portals and physical job centres across the country and to establish the main job centre in Hulhumale' within two months. He said the government is now working to open the regional job centres in Gan and Dhuvaafaru and to open more job centres in other parts of the country after discussions with local councils.
Minister Fayyaz said a desk for each job centre will be open at the local councils to establish a mechanism for a registry of individuals seeking jobs. He said the government expects a significantly positive outcome from the work to open the job centres.
Currently, services provided by job centres are available online to make it easier for employers to announce job postings and for individuals to choose their preferred place of employment.
The online portal provides services for employers to shortlist applicants, facilitate interviews, and assist individuals in fulfilling the requirements to apply for jobs.
