Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has completed and opened the West Apron in Velena Internation Airport (VIA). To mark the opening of the West Apron, the Maldivian flight Q2707 from Cochin, India was welcomed at the VIA with a water salute.
Speaking to the journalists following the event held to open the West Apron, CEO and Managing Director of MACL Gordon Andrew Stewart said services will be quicker and more efficient as the apron has now been brought into use. Stewart said hereafter bus transportation will not be required for passengers as the apron is close to the domestic terminal. He also said modern facilities used in the apron will serve to improve the quality of services. He further added efforts are underway to hire employees and resources to improve services for the peak tourism season.
The West Apron is designed to park domestic and international flights. The apron can accommodate nine flights at a time.
