Civil Service Commission (CSC) has appointed 34 members as secretaries-general of local councils established under the Decentralisation Act. As such, CSC appointed secretaries-general to one city council, four atoll councils, and 29 island councils.
CSC revealed the commission will continue appointing individuals as secretaries-general to remaining councils in the coming days upon completion of the appointment process. CSC noted an orientation programme is scheduled to be held from November 8-10 for those appointed as secretaries-general.
A total of 511 applicants applied for the positions of secretaries-general of local councils on June 20, 2021. The post of secretary-general is the administrative head of the local council.
The secretary-general of the council must also carry out the responsibility of the financial officer, with the administration of the secretariat of the council, on the recommendation of the council. CSC noted the screening process for secretaries-general at the 75 councils re-announced for various reasons is currently underway.
