Parliamentary committees changed following registration of MNP

Parliament of the Maldives has made changes to its committees following the registration of the Maldives National Party (MNP). The parliament approved the changes to the party representations in various committees with 34 members voting in favour.

MNP was registered with parliamentarians Colonel (Rtd.) Mohamed Nazim, Abdulla Riyaz, and Ahmed Usham as its members. As such, Nazim has been included in the Committee on Foreign Relations and Riyaz has been included in the Public Accounts Committee and Committee on Government Oversight. Usham has been included in the Committee on National Security Services, Committee on Independent Institutions, and Committee on Human Rights and Gender.

Furthermore, Independent Parliamentarian Ibrahim Naseem has been included in the Committee on Foreign Relations and Parliamentarian Hisaan Hussain from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has been included in the Committee on National Security Services.

MNP was registered as a political party in the Maldives on October 25, and Mohamed Nazim has been appointed as the president of the party. There are currently 11 political parties registered in the Maldives, with six parties represented in the Parliament.

Currently, MDP consists of 65 members in the Parliament, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) consists of six members, while the Jumhooree Party, the People's National Congress (PNC), and MNP each consist of three members.

The Parliament also consists of two members from the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and five independent members.
