Minister of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated the government plans projects in the atolls in accordance with the expectations of the people.
Responding to questions at the Parliament, Minister Aslam said the government projects conducted in the islands are designed in accordance with the opinions and wishes of the residents. The minister highlighted the government is always willing to make changes and even add in items for projects based on the feedback received by residents. He said the government will expand the current road development project in Addu City to add in the development of more roads if that is what the citizens want.
He assured the government is not focused on completing projects as initially planned and is willing to expand projects, even if it means making changes to the budget.
The government has planned to tar and level 18 roads in Addu at a cost of USD 8.7 million. Numerous other projects are currently ongoing in Addu, including the development of a 25-kilometre road and reclamation of 228 hectares of land.
