Over 700 new jobs to be created across education and health sectors

Ministry of Finance has included the creation of 700 new jobs across the education and health sectors in the state budget proposed for the year 2022.

As per the budget submitted to the Parliament of the Maldives, more than 700 new recruitments are to be made across the education and health sectors, including 400 teachers, 160 doctors and over 200 nurses. The budget has an allocation of USD 147 million and USD 146 million for the wages of education and healthcare staff respectively.

Speaking at the parliament, Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer noted the government will be implementing minimum wage in 2022, to reduce the wage disparities among workers. He also highlighted the introduction of the new national pay framework, which will be implemented phase by phase starting from next year.

The government had earlier revealed about USD 38.8 million would be allocated in the 2022 state budget for salaries of government employees, for the implementation of minimum wage next year. The government had stated about 15,000 government employees will receive improved salaries following the implementation of minimum wage.
