The Government of the Maldives allocates USD 777,000 for the official residences of the Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed and Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan in the proposed state budget for 2022.
The parliament approved the government-proposed bills to provide official residences to the parliament speaker and the chief justice. The bills dictate the state is required to provide employees and cover the expenses of the residences, as well as allow the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to provide the required security clearances.
The proposed state budget has allocated USD 440,000 to cover expenses for the official residence of the speaker. This includes USD 78,000 for bureau expenses, USD 207,000 for corporate expenses, and USD 155,000 for household expenses.
Furthermore, USD 343,000 has been allocated to cover expenses for the official residence of the chief justice. This includes USD 18,000 for bureau expenses, USD 246,000 for corporate expenses, and USD 84,000 for household expenses.
The President's Office has stated that temporary residences have been provided for the speaker and the chief justice while the renovation is ongoing at the official residences.
