The Secretariat of the Parliament has registered Maldives National Party (MNP) with three members.
Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed announced the party was registered upon submission of the necessary documents. He said registration of MNP also constitutes changes to parliamentary committees.
MNP was registered with parliamentarians Colonel (Rtd.) Mohamed Nazim, Abdulla Riyaz, and Ahmed Usham as its members. MNP was registered as a political party in the Maldives on October 25, and Mohamed Nazim has been appointed as the president of the party.
There are currently 11 political parties registered in the Maldives, with six parties represented in the Parliament. Currently, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) consists of 65 members in the Parliament, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) consists of six members, while the Jumhooree Party, the People's National Congress (PNC), and MNP each consist of three members.
The Parliament also consists of two members from the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and five independent members.
